Add context to the document

Find and select the document, then open its Notes view. Read the existing discussion before adding a note. You need the relevant note access; notes do not change the document’s indexing keywords. Write a concise note explaining the decision or question, then submit it. Confirm that it appears on the intended document.

The document discussion combines existing notes, a new-note composer, and a Follow control.

Mention a colleague

Use the mention picker in the note editor when you want to draw someone’s attention to the document. Select the intended person instead of relying on plain text that only looks like a mention. A mention does not grant the recipient permission to read restricted content. If they cannot open it, ask the access owner to check the document’s rights.

Follow and return to the discussion

Use the document’s follow control when you want notifications about subsequent activity. Review the notification inbox and open the notification to return to its document. Personal notification preferences affect how activity is presented. If you no longer need updates, unfollow the document. Removing your follow preference does not remove the notes or other people’s subscriptions. For reminder behavior, note governance, and retention implications, see Notes and collaboration.
